Trial Evaluation

The project's global testbed consists of five islands of the different partners connected via RedIris, in which joint use cases have been developed. The 5G mechanisms proposed in the project for critical environments have been validated. This testbed has been integrated with the 5TONIC infrastructure.

The most important activities carried out in this testbed are mentioned below:

  • Deployment tests of VNFs in drones with containers in an OSM environment and of different routing protocols for ad-hoc wireless networks.
  • Creation and evaluation of a virtualized EPC prototype using the OpenAirInterface5G platform, virtualizing the EPC entities, and creating an eNB using a PC with a USRP device. • Integration of a LoRaWAN network and a 4G/5G EPC: Modify the gateway to incorporate part of the eNB and UE signaling.
  • Evaluation of the 5GCity infrastructure and validation of real use cases (including deployment of VNFs at subproject sites).
  • Extension of the project's use cases incorporates efficient energy consumption management in drones with limited resources.
  • Integration of a LoRaWAN network and a 4G/5G EPC, modifying the gateway to incorporate part of the eNB and UE signaling.
  • EPC orchestration to recover a 4G/5G network automatically assuming a critical urban situation after a catastrophe.
  • Migration of SDN controllers with Data Distribution Service (DDS) middleware for critical urban situations.
  • Security and capacity improvements in low-cost LoRaWAN networks.
  • Creation, deployment, and evaluation of a virtualized LoraWAN network consists of Motas, Gateway, Network Servers, and LoRaWAN application. It has been the basis for the MTAILS project (ESA call) to evaluate the integration of IoT networks with satellite networks.
  • Deployment of an SN4I network infrastructure supports NFV/Cloud over a network based on SDN, OSM, and various VIMs based on OpenStack and OpenVIM. Work has been done on integrating sensor virtualization in the SN4I infrastructure and the DynPAC solution as a resilient WIM within ETSI OSM. The reconfigurable architecture in aircraft-type drones has been deployed, implemented, and evaluated, integrating the reconfigurable architecture of sensors with Kubernetes.
  • Deployment of testbeds in the laboratory and a real urban scenario with Small Cells WiFi/LTE. This testbed has also served as the basis for the results obtained in the H2020 5GCity and H2020 FLAME projects.
